ALL THINGS DERMAPLANING

What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is an exfoliation treatment that uses a painless blade to gently scrape away vellus hair (often referred to as 'peach fuzz') and rids the skin of any build-up of dead skin cells, all which can contribute to making your skin look dull or uneven.

Just like any other exfoliation treatment, it removes any barriers which would stop your skincare from penetrating – meaning your products often work much more effectively after dermaplaning.

Will my hair grow back thicker?

Um, NO! We would never do that to you. Vellus hair (the small blonde hairs on your face) do NOT grow back the same way that other body hair does. Vellus hair will continue to grow back the same colour, thickness and amount that it was when it was dermaplaned.

How many times can I use my Derma Razor? How do I keep it clean?

3-4 uses per razor if cared for properly. We recommend cleaning with an alcohol wipe or run under warm water and store away with it’s protective cap.

How is it eco-friendly? How do I dispose of it?

Once the blade is safely removed, pop the handle in your recycling. The fibres used in making our razors are 100% biodegradable.

What are the benefits of Dermaplaning at home?

Dermaplaning at home is both cost-efficient and AMAZING for your skin-care routine. You'll notice an instant difference in the appearance and feel of your skin, and get more out of your skincare products as the treatment allows your products to better penetrate and be absorbed into your skin.

Are there any side effects?

After dermaplaning, you may experience a little redness due to the exfoliation, but your normal tone will return within 10 minutes. It is important to remember to always use a clean blade.

Remember not to skip on your skincare routine after your dermaplaning session.

If you suffer from severe acne, please refrain from dermaplaning as this may cause irritation.

How to use our Derma-Razor

  • Start with a freshly cleansed face and ensure all hair is tied up and away from your face.
  • You can choose to dermaplane with an oil base or with dry skin - we recommend our Glow Oil for the perfect base.
  • Apply 4-5 drops of our Glow Oil to the face and neck, or until the face is lightly lubricated.
  • Use Xali’s dermarazor on a 45-degree angle and gently stroke in the direction of the hair. We recommend dermaplaning downwards.
  • After each stroke, wipe the blade on a cotton pad so you can see the results instantly as you go (this is a little bit gross, but a LOT satisfying).
  • Gently wash your face to remove any remaining hairs laying on the surface of your skin and then finish with our Glow Oil again to lock in hydration. You may also want to use a light toner after derma planing but before the glow oil.
  • If possible, try to remain make-up free for the next 8-12 hours, to reduce any chance of irritation.
  • Also, reduce exfoliation - both manual and chemical - on the face for the next 24-48 hours following your derma planing session. This is already an epic exfoliation for your skin, so you want to treat it gently for the next few days.

Enjoy your silky smooth and deliciously glowy skin, lovers!
